Education

Colac Area Health co-ordinate a number of programs for new and current staff. Each program aims to provide support to the participant as they transition into a new area or role.

Staff Training

Through our online learning and education tool, SOLLE, staff can:

  • View the course calendar
  • Enrol in internal courses and education sessions
  • Complete online learning assessments and
  • Track professional development

Graduate Nurse Program

This program provides the graduate nurse with a supported year in a dynamic health service. It facilitates the transition from tertiary student to a confident and competent Registered Nurse. Key features are:

  • The number of positions will vary each year. The program includes three rotations in areas such as the Acute Ward, Community Nursing, Urgent Care, Perioperative Services and Residential Aged Care.
  • Supernumerary placements can be in areas including Midwifery and Haemodialysis.

Application Process

Apply for the graduate nurse program through PMCV Allocation and Placement Service by the due date and state Colac Area Health as your preferred option. Details of what is required in the application are outlined in PMCV Allocation and Placement Service.

Further Nursing Studies

Further nursing studies are currently offered at Colac Area Health in conjunction with Deakin and Federation University.

Colac Area Health supports post graduate study in areas such as perioperative services, emergency medicine and midwifery. An external rotation at a tertiary hospital to gain exposure to services not offered at Colac Area Health, is also available.

The Graduate Diploma/Certificate of Nursing program is advertised on the Colac Area Health website in the second half of the year. Please follow the details outlined in this advertisement to apply.

Student Placement

Colac Area Health annually facilitates more than 250 students from different education providers and disciplines across Victoria and nationally.

Workforce Training and Development facilities include a tutorial room, a simulation room and video-conferencing for outreach education.

Student Accommodation at Colac Area Health

 

Colac Area Health has accommodation available for students of any health related discipline who are on placement in the organisation. Accommodation can be booked through the Deakin Rural Health website Student support and accommodation | Deakin
