Birregurra Advisory Committee

The Birregurra Advisory Committee provides support and advice to the Birregurra Community Health Centre and its staff in planning and development of services and activities.

It is especially focused on ensuring that Birregurra retains the doctor’s practice located at the Centre.

The Committee’s role is extremely important. It focuses on strategic planning and oversees health services, health promotion and community development of the Centre. Members provide input on new and expanded services and programs. They inform the Centre on areas of need in the community and ways to address those needs.

The health of individuals and communities is strongly influenced by social and economic factors, as well as by disease and illness. People are more likely to feel, and be well if they are also physically and mentally active and feel connected to others.

Community participation in the decisions affecting services and activities contributes greatly to community and individual wellbeing.

In addition, the Committee has a role in providing advice to the Board of Colac Area Health. Members of the Advisory Committee  have a responsibility to represent the local community to ensure the Centre is doing what local people want and need.

Membership

In September each year, nominations are invited for membership of the Birregurra Advisory Committee. One third of the members retire each year and may renominate. Membership is open to any member of the local community. The Committee meets monthly.

The invitation to nominate is advertised each year in the Birregurra Mail and Colac Herald. Enquiries for casual vacancies are always welcome.
